Antony Spanbrook
Managing Director
Over the last sixteen years, Antony has built up an impressive list of credentials that span the film, television, musical and corporate theatre production industries. In 1995 he made his move into Experiential Marketing full time with Caribiner International and subsequently Jack Morton Worldwide, the successful bid for the launch of Windows ’95, a sign of things to come. His first taste of Asia was the production of the first ever corporate show to be held in the Forbidden City in Beijing for Nokia Mobile Phones in 1997.
Since moving to Hong Kong in 2000, he delivered roadshows and conferences for companies such as Singapore Airlines, Intel, JPMorgan, Nortel and Bausch & Lomb. In October 2000, he worked with the Department of Foreign Affairs in Beijing in formulating the design and structure of the 6th Major Cities Summit, held in Beijing and produced all State Receptions and Official Dinners for the Fortune Global Forum in 2001.
Antony has worked with CLSA Limited consistently over the last seven years, producing Investor Forum business sessions as well as social events with artistes as Blondie, Shaggy, The Corrs, Macy Gray, Elton John, James Brown, Duran Duran and INXS. The middle of 2002 saw Antony join the Jack Morton team producing the XVII Commonwealth Games in Manchester, looking after headline talent in both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
In 2002, Antony once again worked with the HKSARG and ITU, producing the Opening Ceremony of ITU Telecom Asia 2002. He filled the role of Executive Producer and Creative Director. In January 2004, Antony relocated temporarily to Athens to take up the position of Producer of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad; Jack Morton Public Events won the contract in 2002.
After returning to Hong Kong Antony embarked on a new challenge with the launch of Luminous, his own company specializing in creative experiences that build brands and communicate business messages. In the first year clients included Asia Netcom, Pfizer, adidas, CLSA, Nortel and Goldman Sachs. His team has also managed the Closing Ceremony of the Year of France in China, and the Opening Ceremony of Hong Kong’s new conference and exhibition facility, AsiaWorld-Expo.
2006 proved another successful year for Antony, with his role as Executive Producer of the Cathay Pacific 60th Anniversary Celebration in Hong Kong and yet more conferences for CLSA in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Beijing. The production of the ITU World 2006 Opening Ceremony, in conjunction with RTHK, was an opportunity for Antony to yet again execute this renowned event and utilise his experience with onstage VIP and protocol management.
In just two years Luminous has become one of the region’s leading event companies based out of Hong Kong. In 2007, the company launched Terminal 2 at Hong Kong International Airport, launched the revitalized Premier brand for HSBC and delivered further projects for The Royal Bank of Scotland, Asia Netcom and CLSA. Antony also led the team in the launch of the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel, with headline act Diana Ross. The entire show played to an audience of over 15,000 people including, 3,000 VIPs and 1,200 of the world’s media.
2008 promises to be a year of expansion for Luminous with plans for increased on-the-ground production support in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai and Macau. Antony stresses that the company will continue to adhere to its hands-on, boutique approach, fully promoting excellence in client service where senior management will always be directly involved in creative direction and production delivery.
